Sustainable logistics

Safe and sustainable
from door to door

We have to make sure that our products arrive safe and sound on the doorsteps of our JEMAKO customers. So how do we keep things sustainable when it comes to shipping and logistics for countless parcels every day? Think advanced software and smart packaging logistics...

Like tetris only with parcels

We’ve all been there – sometimes we receive huge parcels with something half the size inside. The rest of the space is filled with packaging materials and air. Or, to put it another way, wasted resources and precious space. You don’t have to worry about this when you place an order with us because we match the packing materials to the products being shipped.

How does our smart packaging system work?

Step 1

An order is ready to be packed. The software checks all of the product information on the system in a matter of seconds. It uses the order details, including the dimensions and weight of each product, to calculate the package volume.

Step 2

The best cardboard is selected from the standard sizes available. In an automated process, the selected cardboard box passes through several stations, where workers pack the order. The software has calculated that it will all fit in advance.

Step 3

The system shows the shipping staff which items belong to this particular order. This helps us to avoid making errors at the packing stage, which is a proactive way of preventing unnecessary returns.

Step 4

All the products are packed efficiently into the cardboard box. The software ensures that certain types of products are packaged separately to protect the more delicate items.

Step 5

All parcels are stacked up on pallets ready for our logistics service provider. The standardised box sizes mean that more or less every inch of space is utilised here too. This makes it easier for the delivery company to load everything up efficiently so they can maximise the number of packages taken on each journey.

And sometimes...

...things still go wrong! It can happen that customers open up packages that haven’t been packaged optimally. Usually, this will have been a conscious decision to keep products properly protected. We do aim to get it right every time, so please just let us know if you notice any issues. It’s the only way we can learn and improve!

Sustainability in every box

Environmentally friendly

Socially fair

Financially viable

Every cardboard box represents a choice. And we always choose to send our products in packaging with the FSC or FSC Mix label. The paper used to make boxes with this certification comes from controlled sources and sustainably managed forests. The production processes for packaging made from certified sources are environmentally friendly, the conditions for workers and locals are fair and the solution is economically viable for us.

Our packing boxes come straight from a local supplier, which keeps transportation to a minimum and reduces carbon emissions.

Sustainable delivery courtesy of
JEMAKO sales partners

Many of our JEMAKO sales partners take responsibility for getting products to their customers. They collate a number of orders and deliver them in batches. This way, they can deliver the orders made at the last cleaning party straight to their customers’ doors without having to worry about packaging them up.

Less waste,
fewer returns,
happier faces

Direct contact between our sales partners and their JEMAKO customers after a cleaning party is good news all round. It’s a great way to cut back on packaging materials so we’re not wasting resources. But it also provides a good face-to-face opportunity to clear up any last questions about a product or how to use it. With this level of transparency and helpful advice after orders have been placed, we can keep returns to a minimum.
